It's been a while since I have done an edition of brain bullets and so tonight I thought that I would. But first, these announcements.
Return of the Liberal Church - Season 2 That's right folks, the ever popular Liberal Church Sermons will return in January. Join the Reverend Sammy Sosalist, Reverend Jessica Jackstone, and some new characters as this wacky bunch tries to out liberal the liberals. With Democrats back in control of the house and senate, this year is sure to be wackier than ever. In the meantime, say your nightly prayer to the Holy Spirit Che Guevara.
Interview with a blogger - Founder of Wide Awakes Radio, Kender, will be my guest in the premier of 'Interview with a Blogger'. Another guest will be George Roper of GM's corner, who recently battled cancer and won. If you own a blog and would like to be interviewed, please send me a message on Yahoo IM at avman82000. Please include a link to your blog and tell me why I should interview you. This series will start within the next week.
Liberal Bible Study - In early Spring, join us as we learn about the old constitution and learn to read it as only a Liberal can.
AV~Playoff Picks - Each year, during the NFL season, I always gave my football picks. This year, I have been derelict in my duties, how Clintonesque of me. However, I will not miss the playoffs. Look for my blog schedule shortly after Christmas.
The last thing is a request. I know many of you like to take my articles, writings, et al, and forward them through emails. I appreciate it when you do that, however, I would like to request that you also include a link back to this site, though not necessarily the article.
Brain Bullets (to keep the cerebral uzi cocked and loaded)
"Actual happiness looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand." -Aldous Huxley
A couple of years ago, I'd see this older white lady walking up and down the street. She was very nice, in fact, one could say she was very generous, even liberal in what she would give away. She was a thrill seeker, and for a few bucks, she'd thrill you too. Enough men, and probably some government agency giving her money meant she didn't have to work. Which she was too busy partying to be bothered with work, anyway, so I guess it worked out well for her.
I never forgot this woman, forty something years old, getting into fist fights on a daily basis, always looking for her next high, and her boyfriend was even nice enough to find the men who needed satisfied for her. I remember the day that shocked me, the day I found out that she was only 24. We often think happiness is thrilling, exciting, the new high, but when we travel down that path we find much more misery, pain, and our bodies takes it's toll. We grow old before our time, but our minds never mature.
Happiness isn't about staying happy all the time, or as often as possible. It's about settling down, finding your purpose in life, accomplishing goals, earning respect, gaining knowledge and the greatest joy is in seeing that knowledge passed on and practiced. It's not glorious, the highs are much further apart, but once you know your purpose, those joys suddenly are less important.
"Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live." -Dorothy Thompson
"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." -Helen Keller
I believe I have said it here, but I know I have said it elsewhere, you can not live life by avoiding death. If you want life, go live! We all know somebody who is so worried about living that they spend most of their time worrying about things that could kill them. They want more laws on the books, let fear stop them from taking on new adventures, and safe in everything they do, but in the end, we all find ourselves taking a dirtnap.
The way I look at death is simple. Either there is a God, or there ain't. If there ain't a God, we won't know we died, when it happens. If there is a God, then you'd better have your business with him taken care of before you go see him. I have my business settled with God, so there's nothing left to fear. Life was meant to be lived, and live it, I shall.
"God grant me the courage not to give up what I think is right, even though I think it is hopeless." -- Chester W. Nimitz.
When I first started this blog, I looked around the world and did not like what I saw. I looked at a Republican Presidency that appeared to me to be far away from my beliefs. Most of my allies seemed to have abandonned our core values. I thought I was alone, and never felt more so. It was the coldest part of my life. I didn't see anybody else standing up for what I believed, so I did. Alone if I must. I fought through the weakness, the coldness, the loneliness, and I began to type away.
They say, if you stand still long enough, the world will come back to you. When I stood up, I could see beyond that which was blocking my view. I saw, I was not alone. When you're sitting there wondering why everything is wrong, stand up for what's right, alone, if you must.
