I think the United States needs to do something to make it easier for people to come to this
country legally. I have absolutely no problem with most immigrants coming to this country. I am not concerned about immigrants nearly as much as I am concerned about the government creating more laws. I'm concerned that people are getting too emotional about this issue. I'm concerned that this issue is going to get uncivil.
Republicans need to be very careful on this issue. Not only can they potentially lose the Hispanic vote, but an over-zealous demand against illegal immigrants, couple with the xenophobia of the UAE Ports deal will give minorities the impression that it's not about immigration, but about race. It will dissolve the groundwork and breakthroughs that Republicans have made in the black community. Many, if not most, legal immigrants vote Republican. An anti-immigration stance, or the appearance of being anti-immigrant will cost Republicans votes.
With that being said, however, when the first act within the borders by an immigrant is to violate the law then how can we expect them to obey the rest of our laws? The people that are law abiding want to obey the law and borders don't excuse behavior. Criminals hold no regard for laws in their own country, why should we expect them to abide by our laws?
As for the Democrats, the problem wouldn't be nearly as bad had they not been standing on the borders forcing United States Citizens hard earned money to give free healthcare, free welfare, free housing, and/or drivers licenses. There is absolutely no justification for that. It doesn't help matters that we have thousands of people sitting around all day on welfare roles collecting money from government. That money was taken from people who work hard for their money and given to people that can be, that are more than capable of, and should be working for their money.
It also doesn't help matters that Mexicans that were born and raised in this country, and speak poor or no Spanish, run around and speak as if they were Mexicans at war with the United States. It makes little sense too me that people that hate this country with such venom are allowed to continue too live in this country. If you hate this country so much, what are you doing here? Move, go somewhere else. You'll be happier, we'll be happier, and the world will be a much better place for all of us.
As a Latino, I find their actions to be abhorrent and they do not represent me. I understand that the majority of people that want something done about the borders ARE NOT racist. I understand their concerns. Once again, my only concern with the anti-illegal immigrant stance is over-zealousness.
I'm not concerned about 9-11 and terrorism. I am not in the least bit interested in hearing this compared to terrorism. It's time to get back to our lives and quit crying about terrorism over every single thing. For crying out loud, we can't even have a hurricane hit New Orleans without people talking about how our government going to react to a terrorist attack.
Why now? Why does this issue need to be addressed NOW? Shouldn't this been taken care of immediately after 9-11? I mean, what difference does it make now? It's been 4½ years since the 9-11 attacks, don't you think if our security in relation to 9-11 would have been exposed by now? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
As for illegal immigration itself, I believe only one thing needs to be done, absolutely needs to be done, is to enforce the existing laws on the books. We can pass thousands and thousands of laws and it still won't do any good if we don't enforce them.
However, if we do want to revamp the laws, make it easier for people from FREINDLY countries to come here. When they are hear, give them no special treatment, nor make it more difficult for them to gain employment. I don't see the problem with more Mexicans coming here to do jobs that people on welfare should be doing instead of sitting around all day as professional daytime talk show analyst. I have no problem with them working in construction and whatever else they do. We don't need to be anti-immigrant.
While at the same time, should make it more difficult for people to come here illegally. As it now stands, it's much easier for Mexicans to come here illegally than it is for them to come here legally. You want the solution? Let them come, let them come legally.
Before any of you tell me how racist I am, or what a hatemonger I am, blah, blah, blah, you should know that half my family is immigrants, including my wife.
