Education

I have been thinking about our education system lately. I know a better way to help the poor unfortunate souls that get bad grades, educate the children about the way the real world works, and leave no child behind.

What we will do is look at each child and their situation. We will give them bonus points to help them get a 'C' average. We know the grading system. 90-100 is an "A", less than 60 is an "F". What we need to do is make sure that every child meets the minimum standard of education.

One of the first phases of my plan is to institute a "Minimum grade" standard. For each class the student attends, he gets one point applied toward his grade, unless he is already making 76% or above.

Next, we must help the poor minded students by taxing the rich minded students. If a student is getting a 76% test score average, then he should his extra grades taxed. Since the student made better grades, he can afford to give some of his points to the more needy students.

Any student who doesn't meet the standard 75% will receive and "Earned Income Grade Break". It is unfair to the students that don't achieve 75% or higher have to suffer because of the greedy kids at school who take advantage of the needier students.

I know what you are thinking, this is "Scholastic Socialism". I assure you that it is not. It is merely the government helping the poor minded. It does not affect the middle class students, they can work just as hard and still receive the same grades as before. This is just instituting a more compassionate system, one that "leaves no child behind." Our aim is to make the richest students pay more. The more you have, the more you ought to give. We are building a bridge to the 22d century today. The future is now!

Also, students will be prohibited from talking about the myriad of failed socialist systems. We are thinking progressively, so the past no longer matters. Progressive thinking is allowed. Regressive thinking is not. The schools may place further restrictions on speech if abuse of free speech hurtful to others.

If necessary, congress may step in and further prohibit protests, unfair grade changing for the rich, and antisocial thinking..

The point system will be administered by the federal government.

Hummm? My post seems to have disapeared. Did you not like the reasoning, or did it raise quetions that you could not answer with your usual strawmen?

Its a shame that no one thought of this in your case. As with most of your boyish rhetoric your cribbing from conservative commentators infects your (poor) prose. So your assumption seems to be that grades and income are perfectly analogous. Apples and Oranges I say. The common denominator you seem to want to impose is that hardwork in school and hardwork for compensation produce the same effect. Thus if I work hard in school I will earn a grade of A and if I work hard in the job market I will earn an income equivalent to A. Is this the case? I am from Louisiana, so I know that you ought to see the problem with your analogy by simply looking around you. Hardwork in school and hardwork in the jobmarket do not produce the same results. How many poor Louisianians do you know that worked hard their whole lives, yet have nothing to show for it? They did not get As as regards to income. Surely you will admit that hard work in both settings will not produce the same results? Why? In the classroom it is assumed that all things being equal hardwork will be rewarded with good grades; the same assumption applies to the job market. But are all things equal? Your first rejoinder will be supply and demand as applied to skills. Your second will be tough cookies. Since it will be your contention that people who did not aquire those skills that are particularly valuable were irresponsible, and that should be punsihed not rewarded. Can all people be doctors, and lawyers and such? Or can they all have middleclass incomes? Obviously no. As the market simply will not allow it. Thus there is a need in society for people who are hardworking but have low skill sets. They perform the work of society. Is it this that should be rewarded? Should they also have access to healthcare, retirement, bread and the other relishes that form the definition of civilization? Or do we not have need for such nuances as the difference between civilization and barbarism? I know what your saying just another bleeding heart! But tell me where else can a prominent bleeding heart be found?Clue, You see it frequently. I know the liberals cannot get it though their thick mind that the world is simply not fair. But really this is not an issue of fairness but of the good. And yes I know somewhere in that mind of yours you see the words social engineering, socialism, communism oh my! But tell me what is government and why should it establish justice, that is why should it protect the weak from the strong?Or should it? Since all people are born with muscles and they all have an equal chance of aquiring strength, those who are dominated by the strong were simply irresponsible. And I am sure you will open up your great book of founder's quotes and find a beaut. But next time you do,do us all a favor and try to read the letters and books that they can be found in.
Perhaps you can find the story of Jefferson meeting a poor women on a road in England. You may also look at the classical derivations of government. What is the differnece between an Oligarchy and Aristocracy, or democracy and a Polity. What produces factions in cities, and how will a justly ruled city amerlorate their effects. Or is every attempt to do so merely remind you of Caeser crossing the Rubicon?

You have an interesting concept here. Here's an idea: If a student goes to home room every day, that student would be exempt from a portion (say 5%) of the "Minimum Grade" standard. Of course, this would lower the effective "Minimum Grade" to 70%. This would offer politicians an opportunity to appear to reform the system by raising the "Minimum Grade" standard to 80%.

LOL! That is awesome! Although the concept doesn't seem to be original, pray tell, where did you get such an idea :)

It's because it's the fair thing to do. Why should so many children suffer with bad grades while so many have such good grades? It's just not fair.

I did not understand that at all. Taxing grades?
